Those Proverbial Brick Walls…

by Ali on May 26, 2010

I think I hit one this past week, a wall, that is.

It was like the perfect storm, except that there is really nothing perfect about it.  Busy-ness, and tiredness, and busy-ness, and crazy muggy heat (and maybe some cute distractions) combined to create conditions in which I just could not keep knitting on the sleeve(s) of my very wool (and alpaca!), and thus very warm, sweater.  I just couldn’t.

As much as I love, love, LOVE the idea of sweaters knit in one piece, all seamless and simple, the problem with knitting attached sleeves, is that, well, they’re attached.  To a sweater.  In my case, the sleeve I keep trying to finish is attached to a hot and heavy sweater body that I seem to have timed really badly.  Sigh.

I think that I’ve decided on a temporary shelving of this project- surely there will still be a few more days with highs only in the upper 70s, this is, after all, Minnesota, often affectionately known as The Frozen Tundra.  I may have to keep an eye on the 10 day forecast at weather.com and do some strategic planning.  I may not really be organized enough to pull that off, but it sounded like a good idea, didn’t it?

Well, since my youngest sister has an adorable baby boy, and since I know of some more up and coming babies, I think my next move (in addition to the onesies!) is going to be getting my hands on some more Spud and Chloe (I totally don’t know how to get the dots, lame, I know) Fine to whip through some baby socks, because in addition to being totally adorable and totally portable, they totally will not melt my lap on a hot and muggy day.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

What do you knit when it’s too hot for a sweater on the lap?

Thank you for visiting my blog & your lovely comment. It's hard to knit in hot weather & I do understand that as I had the same problem last summer. But for us, it's winter now & the best knitting weather.

I want to crochet an afghan but it has been too hot and muggy here, too. I have put that idea on the shelf for now. I will work on some crocheted flowers.
